Everything You Need to Know About Clean Beauty

The ‘clean beauty’ movement is a taking skincare by storm.

These days, so many of us are looking for all natural, zero-irritant skincare products. We are becoming aware that what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put in our body.

It still blows us away how long the beauty industry has gone completely unregulated. That’s why so many brands now are releasing skincare products that are deemed as ‘clean.’ The idea is that these products are free of toxic ingredients. This is not to say these products are completely green, but they are proven
to be safe to both people and the environment.

But with so many companies in the beauty industry falsely claiming their products as natural, organic or clean – it can get a little confusing! So how do you truly know which skincare products are actually clean?

When in doubt, follow these steps to keep your skincare routine as clean as possible:

Do an ingredient check! As a general rule, look for products free of:
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Formaldehyde
  • Lead
  • Mineral oil
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Skip the fragrances and dyes!

Companies are not actually required to list fragrance ingredients on labels. This means you have no real way to know exactly what’s in them. So, opt for fragrance and dye-free products whenever possible.

This may come as a surprise – just because an ingredient is natural, does not mean it is safe. Clean beauty products will incorporate both synthetic and natural ingredients. This is not a bad thing. When products are truly ‘clean’ (synthetic or not), it means they will not be harmful to you in any way.

Don’t worry beauties, the small amount of toxins in a single product is not likely to have adverse effects. However, it becomes a problem when these toxins are in almost everything you use. That’s why it’s a good idea to cut out the toxic ingredients when you can. You shouldn’t have to jeopardize your health for quality skincare.

Have you made the switch to clean skincare products yet? If so, let us know your favorites!
