Hi beauties!
Today we are going to talk about something that most of us struggle with at one point in our lives – acne. Although fighting acne begins inside, there are a few key ingredients to look for in the quest for flawless skin. These are our 3 favorites right now:
Clay
We’re positive you’ve either seen photos of people wearing clay masks or you’ve tried one yourself. Clay is all the rage now, but it has been used in skincare for centuries. When applied as a mask, it helps clear blemishes, unclog pores and control oily skin. So exactly what about works so well for acne-prone skin? Well, clay naturally has a negative electrical charge, so it binds to negative toxins and pulls them out of the skin. The second you wash it off, your skin feels invigorated. This is exactly why it works so well to unclog pores and decrease acne. We can go on about the benefits of clay forever, but we’ll tell you about a few other options as well.
Salicylic Acid
This ingredient is traditionally seen in most over-the-counter products for acne-prone skin. Not only does it help reduce the size of active pimples, but it works to prevent it as well. It’s actually a chemical exfoliant, which reduces the number of skin cells within the pore – therefore preventing pimples from forming. Don’t let the word chemical scare you, salicylic acid is actually quite gentle. But always be sure to try a small spot test using any new product if you have extremely sensitive skin.
Tea Tree Oil
This essential oil is a popular choice for treating acne because of its anti-bacterial properties. For the purpose of this article, we will just talk about its acne-fighting benefits, although it has many. Apply the tea tree oil directly to your blemishes using a Q-tip and see a decrease in size and redness overnight. You can also add tea tree oil to other skincare products you use daily. Try adding a couple drops to your favorite moisturizer or clay mask. The key is to not use too much, it should always be diluted when applied to your whole face. Alternatively, you can add a few drops to a spray bottle with water and spritz it all over your face after cleansing.
Remember, always try to take the holistic approach when fighting acne, less is more! Combine a healthy diet rich in probiotics and try these 3 topical ingredients.
